If you follow my blog then you know that I’m totally into and love my animals. If you are new here let me tell you that I love my animals unconditionally and am probably not very different than you, since you are here seeking information to help solve a problem you are having with yours.
Over the last three years we’ve gone from five to two dogs. Each reduction was the result of nature taking its course.
My husband always says “the only thing wrong with dogs is that they just don’t live long enough.” Well, I’ve found the exception to that rule. Puppies that use my house for a potty is “something wrong with dogs.”
A month ago Bob was on his way to work in the early morning and shortly after leaving the house came across two puppies on the roadside abandoned.
Kai and Kona
They couldn’t have been more than 4 weeks old and just off their mom. I’ve posted some stories and pictures about them in this blog but the bottom line is that after several days of trying to find a home for them – we decided to keep them.
Their names are Kona and Kai and we have no idea what their combined breeds are (!). Adopting the two foundling puppies was a great idea. They are darling, they are loving, they are appreciative…and they are NOT potty trained!
We have a large house where the two other dogs plus an assortment of cats that come in and go out as expected during the day and or night. We have a doggie door that is always in use for all of the above. We haven’t had to deal with “accidents” for years until now. We have new carpet in 3 bedrooms and several Persian area rugs that are large and expensive to clean. And now we have these two little guys who have no clue about where to empty their bladders or other (!).
We have “brought up” many a puppy and taught them the ways of good canine manners and I don’t know if it’s a perceived time issue or lack of patience or maybe because there are two – but we seemed to be having a slower indoctrination this time around. Whatever the case, we decided that we needed help. We have tons and tons of dog books but none of them address the issue of potty training in a way that worked or made any sense. Perhaps it’s too mundane a subject. I don’t know, but it is a central issue in building a relationship with your puppy – you don’t want to be angry and annoyed with him or her…or in our case, “them”. So Bob went looking for help – online.
There are a lot of very good training books out there but we weren’t interested in training, in general. We just wanted a solution for the “accidents” besides clean up, shampooing, and pet urine deodorizer!

It covers frequency, communication, how to read his (or her) signs of impeding need, schedules, reason for accidents and relapses (and how to correct them).
We’ve had the guide for a week and the bottom line? IT’S WORKING!! OMG! 
Now, we are not totally there yet but the changes in Kona and Kai are already noticeable. The steps are easy. The steps are common sense. The steps are low-key…and I think that is one of the most important things…low-key.
Changing behavior can’t be extreme because it could be traumatic for the puppies and then they would get confused – and never change! The change has to be their idea and that is what this training guide empowers you to facilitate.
I also like their “What Not To Do” section. Again, it is common sense but impatience for results tends to blind us. I recommend it to anyone with a puppy or with an older dog who “doesn’t get it”. Practicing this training method could make a huge difference in happiness with your pet – and your pet’s happiness with you!
